Can someone who knows what they are talking about please explain how I can purchase stock online and give me a good website and tell me what to do. Also what are some good companies to invest in? I heard Visa is doing good. I’m only 18 so I know nothing about this stuff but I want to make some MONEY! I know I can also lose money but oh well..

Go to website of Charles Scwab or Scottrade and apply. Everything is self explanatory. One word of warning. Stay away from penny stocks. Also don’t believe message boards.

Question about short selling?

When borrowing a stock to sell short is there a time restriction? For instance if I were to borrow a stock and then sell do I have to wait a certain length before being able to repurchase the stock to sell back? I’ve done regular trading for a while and am now just learning about shorting.
Also, which brokerage would you recommend for short selling? Most say they have the lowest fees/ comissions but you never know. If any experinced short sellers could help I’d appreciate it.

You can hold onto a stock for as long as you want. The only bad thing is you can only make a certain amount of money when you short, it can’t go lower than $ 0. However if you buy you can theoretically keep gaining money if it keeps going up. As far as brokers, you should just check around and see which you like the best, they all claim to be the lowest but you should just try some for yourself. Just because they have lowest commissions doesn’t mean they’ll be the best broker.

With penny stocks, don’t invest more than you can lose and not miss. Some of them have a big return, but those are few and far between. I recently invested in a mining stock and have been watching it evaporate daily.

I understand that stock trades from “Dark Pools of Liquidity” are kept secret from the rest of us, except that the transaction totals are eventually reported on the National Consolidated Tape. Exactly how long does it take for Dark transactions to reach the Tape? Does the delay put “regular” traders at a disadvantage? How can this possibly be construed as fair to the majority of traders who use an open trading system that shows all the bids, asks, sizes, etc?

Hello Andri,
You are of course right, there are 1000s of companies online who are quite happy to part you from your hard earned pennies without giving anything in return.
However there are hundreds of 1000s which are genuine.
My advice is to go for well established companies like Argos, Tesco, Amazon.
If you come across something you want at a site you do not know, firstly check out the genuine companies to see if they stock it and buy from them or do a Search Engine search for reviews about the company you are thinking of purchasing from.
If there are no reviews, or the reviews are mainly bad (even the best companies get bad reviews sometimes), don’t take a chance by buying from them and look for a reputable company.

The worst debt that I was in was in my 20s, during and after college. I was too dumb to be concerned.
The highest debt was my condo, but my mortgage was very affordable (cheaper than my rent). I sold it when I moved, and paid off a car and a credit card with a high balance.
My current debt is minimal. One of the avenues I used for my credit cards was to get a new card with 0% interest on balance transfers and transfer everything.
I also use my debit card for the majority of my purchases.

I know stocks are a risky business and I probably didn’t explain my question correctly, what I meant to ask was about having an extra income from stocks, of course I understand she will have to fail sometimes until she gets it right but her husband has a very steady job and they have security. Is it actually possible to make an extra income? or does she have to be certified to trade a couple of stocks a week?

No: Actively managed portfolios have been shown to do worse than the market. Therefore, a well diversified portfolio is the best way to go. However, stocks are great for retirement planning bc you’re thinking long term and aren’t worried about short term fluctuations. No you don’t have to certified to trade stocks. Just go to e-trade.

If you made 5 billion percent and then lost 100% you would have 0. Losing 100% trumps everything. Did you read the 10-Q? (Of course not – you dont even know what a 10-Q is). From the 10-Q “At May 31, 2011 the Company had no capital resources and will rely upon the issuance of common stock and additional capital contributions from shareholders to fund administrative expenses ” This company is an empty shell of junk and good intentions. It just exists because there are idiots who buy stuff like this to play stupid penny stock games. There is no money to be made here. The company raised $ 40K from an equity offering (i.e., less than a decent car) and has some plan to offer free website making or something.
Please go to your library and check out a book on investing.
